This research has been conducted by Prof. Congxin Xie’s group. This group has been systemically investigatingthebioticandabiotic environment, the biology of themost important commercial fishspecies, population dynamics, fishery resource distributions and biological invasions intheYarlung Zangbo River for over ten years. This research team has proposed management practices for conservation of native fishes and provided academic information for protecting and utilizing fishery resources and biodiversity in the Yarlung Zangbo River. This team discovered the exo-celiac liver in Glyptosternoid fishes and succeeded in carrying out large-scale artificial breedingof seven native fish of Tibet for the first time. Since 2012, this group has bred 7,750,000 fry from 3 to 5 cmin sizeand released 4,850,000 fry into the Yarlung Zangbo River. This team has published more than fifty papers, of which more than thirty are SCI papers. Two patents have been approvedfrom five submitted patent applications. This team has also established threeseparate sets of production guidelines for industry and developed fifteen standards for local management. The monograph entitled “The study on biology and artificial breeding ofGlyptosternum maculatum in Tibet” won second prize in theScience and Technology Progress Award ofTibet Autonomous Region. In addition, two monographs entitled“The biodiversity and conservation of Glyptosternum maculatum in Tibet” and“The biodiversity and artificial breeding ofSchizothoracinae fishes in the middle reach of Yarlung Zangbo River” will be published by the Science Press soon.
