(reporter WenYaLun Hu Caiyun) 12 September morning, in the fourth teaching building, all professors and 2020 freshmen from the College of Fisheries, attended a seminar which was held to transfer more information about fisheries science to the new students. Eight professors gave academic speeches and 21 professors participated in the face-to-face discussion, inspired freshmen’s interests in learning, introduced the connotation of subjects and shared experience for the freshmen.

At the seminar, professors began with questions, introduced the aquatic professional direction and the frontier academic knowledge from aquaculture disease control, fish immunity, fish nutritional metabolism, fishery resources and the environment, genetic breeding, etc. to the students. The topics let the students have comprehensive understanding of the aquatic professional connotation told them "It’s not just about feeding fish ", and inspired the students with strong desire and interest in aquatic scientific research..

"Fish are very nutritious and provide a lot of good protein. If we deplete all those fishesin natural waters, what will happen to the future generations? The development of economy has enriched people's taste, which makes our aquatic science more and more important." Professor Huanling Wang explained the importance of fishery resources protection to the students.

Students from Class 2001 and 2004 raised strong interests in aquatic environmental problems. Professor Qiong Zhou explained from the professional perspective: "Fish and other creatures form an ecosystem. In this ecosystem, water has self-purification function. Scientific farming models won't cause deterioration of water quality and even can repair and purify the environment. There are still plenty of unsolved problems in aquatic science, you need to continue the exploration and find the answers.".

Enlightenment: knowledge to solve confusion

Professor Zemao Gu and Professor Guangyu Li shared their learning experiences with the students from Class 2002. When talking about the confusion of admission and the lack of understanding of the major, Professor Zemao Gu and Professor Guangyu Li took their own experience as an example to explain in details their college life and the change of their opinions from confusion to finally strong love in Fishery science.

Professor Xufa Ma analyzed the professional background and developmental direction of aquaculture and aquarium science and technology for the students. Professor Weimin Wang believed that the aquaculture discipline is like the vast waters on the earth’s surface, with a wide range and deep content. Aquatic products have endless charm in the world, and the aquatic industry has a bright future.

Answer: look forward to building dreams

Professor Hong Liu patiently answered the students’ questions about the study and life in the university and the future career direction. She believed that every student should make his or her own short-term plans and long-term goals according to his or her own interests and put them into action. Professors Xuezhen Zhang, Jianzhong Shen and Zexia Gao emphasized the importance of active learning and physical exercise, and put forward suggestions for their future plans to help them adapt to university life as soon as possible.

"Don’t use your present ability to restrict your imagination of the future." Professor Jian Gao sent his ownwish to the students. "I hope you can make two friends in your university life, one is the library and the other is the playground," he said. " At the same time, Jian Gao emphasized that we should learn to make full use of time, define life goals, pursue our own ideal interests, and improve our own comprehensive quality throughout the whole university life. This kind of university life will be meaningful and you will never regret afterwards.”
