Comprehensive teaching practice of Aquaculture, and Aquaria Science and Technology in 2020 was successfully completed
To highlight the practical teaching, a very important part for cultivating professional fisheries talents, the appraisal meeting for Comprehensive Teaching Practice of Aquaculture, and Aquaria Science and Technology in 2020 was held on September 24th, 2020. All the students of grade2017 of our college got together to report their production practice results at the classroom C305 of the No. 3 teaching building. Teacher Qiang Zhang from the Practice Teaching Management Department of Undergraduate College, the deputy dean/Professor Jian Gao, and all of the advisers were present at the meeting. The judges were composed of 14 instructors, and Yongbo Yu from class 1704 presided over the meeting.
214 junior students were divided into 14 groups in this practice to complete the artificial propagations of loach and yellow catfish. They performed online practice by using a National virtual simulation experiment project titled “Artificial propagation of freshwater economic fishes” and scientific research trainings based on the practice works as well. During the meeting, each group presented the results of online practice, artificial propagation, scientific research training, practice results and other aspects, and gave some suggestions to solve the problems appearing in the practice. As the speaker of the eighth group, Dengxiao Zhao recounted the experiences of their online and offline internships: We have completed the observations of embryo development of loach and yellow catfish based on reading a large number of literatures, and we have also got great research data and results of four scientific research trainings in the course of the internship, including feeding strategy, the raising environment, the gonad development and the prevention of water mould. Meanwhile, the eighth group has accomplished 4 promotional articles which were read more than 800 times. Moreover, the group received an interview from Chutian Metropolis Daily.
“As a student of College of Fisheries, we will make better use of theoretical knowledge in our daily life in the future study”, said Xiaomin Li, the representative of the sixth group. He also thanked the college for providing such a good opportunity to complete this practice during the novel coronavirus pneumonia outbreak, and the dedication of every teacher on behalf of his group.
After the PPT report, the deputy dean Jian Gao said: the comprehensive teaching practice is very important and the college has overcome a variety of difficulties to provide students a wonderful experience. He encouraged students to practice the school motto “work hard and make their own talents”, and carry forward the character that “as good as water, persevering and practice-oriented”. He also insisted that our students should know the hardship of working, team cooperation and learn how to communicate. He put forward three hopes to students: hoping students keep the spirit of study, hoping students seize the opportunity firmly and hoping students carry on the spirit of HZAU.
“Here, I would like to say ‘hard works’ to all the teachers and students of College of Fisheries”, Said Qiang Zhang, “This internship was a good exploration on the teaching mode, which was a very challenging practice, but also a high-quality unforgettable practice. I have seen the quality of students' active learning and love for scientific researches. I hope that we can stick to it. At the same time, we should seize the time to do graduation design and other related works well, so as to get ready for the next stage of study and life”.
One first prize, two second prizes and three third prizes were set up in this evaluation. After grading by the judges, Qiang Zhang and Jian Gao presented awards to the winning group. The eighth group won the first prize, and the sixth group and the tenth group won the second prize, and the first, second and ninth groups won the third prize. These groups will get various awards such as college bonus, which is not only a reward for the hard work of each group, but also to encourage the students to continue to work hard, take root in scientific research practice, and find their own directions.
This production practice is a new attempt under the influence of the epidemic situation, and it is also the first high-load operation since the new teaching base of our college was put into use. It is not only a try of the college exploring practical teaching mode, but also a vivid embodiment of the practice of traveling culture. Through 35 days of online and offline practice, all junior students of grade 2017 majoring in aquaculture, and Aquaria Science and Technology were able to consolidate their theoretical knowledge of aquacultural and artificial reproduction of economic fish, which greatly improved their practical ability and professional quality. It also opened a new way for talents cultivation of our college, and made a big step forward in exploring new teaching mode.
