Recently, after a fierce competition, the Scientific Research English Speech Contest hosted by the undergraduate college entered the final stage of the whole university. In the final, audiences have the chance to learn the scientific research differences between different majors and enjoy wonderful English speeches. Finally, the group s from L ukuan Li, Xiwen Yang and Y ingcen Li in our college won the special prize of graduate group, the special prize and the third prize of undergraduate group , respectively.
Group of Yingcen Li introduced a functional study of PENK gene and the development of molecular markers. Xiwen Yang’s group mainly focused on a study entitled "the effect of feeding fermented soybean meal on ammonia emission of grass carp". Students from the two groups selected the materials based on fish research, which not only publicized aquatic knowledge to everyone, but also deepened their own understanding of the major. They all agreed that this contest enhanced their oral English, writing and speech skills.
When asked about the efforts behind their success, Xiwen Yang and his team members summarized three key points: firstly, team members divided and cooperated the
work according to their own strengths; Secondly, they all have reserved abundant knowledge of English learning, including vocabulary, pronunciation, translation and so on; Thirdly and crucially, they actively took teacher's advice, revised the speech repeatedly and became well-rehearsed. At the end of the interview, one of the team members, Ke Ye, said: "we do not pursue the first, but pursue our own limits!"
